Sibling love

Today I had one of those moments where instead of rushing around to get things done while kids played happily together, I sat and watched their creativity in action and witnessed first hand the love that exists between these babies of mine.

It would have been so much easier for big brothers to lock themselves away in their room with lego (which is usually what happens :) but today instead, they let little sisters play and made 'girl' characters and got 'big lego' men that wouldn't come apart, and thus safe for a lego eating baby to join in :)



When Lily gave up all civility and no longer wanted to 'play' but wanted to destroy and snatch, again it would have been easy for these boys to walk away and take their game elsewhere. But again I watched as they put their lego down and in a moment of synchronised delight, they wrestled their baby sister on the couch and simultaneously tickled her and made her laugh.

 

Unprompted moments of 'sibling love' are the magic that fill a mother up and make all those not-so-magical moments become forgotten!

I am so grateful to my boys for loving these little girls the way they do (most of the time ;)!

An Old Owl and New Years Resolutions

A wise old owl sat in an oak,

The more he heard the less he spoke;

The less he spoke the more he heard.

Why aren't we all like that wise old bird?

One of my resolutions this year is summed up quite perfectly by the wise old owls actions above. It is to simply listen MORE. Especially to the ones I love the most. In the swirl of life (and the noisiness of my girls), I usually still manage to hear what's going on around me, but hearing and listening are really two different things.

I hope that as I endeavor to speak less and listen more, I will see and know the ways in which I can really help these little seeds of mine grow!
