Do turtles have small brains......

I was having devotional with the boys this morning and we were talking about faith and believing in things even if we can't see them etc......we were talking about things like the wind and AIR as examples and suddenly Zahn says........

Z: Do you know that i have special eyes because like um my brain is like a turtle brain (said very seriously with classic facial expressions).....

R: but Zahn, turtles only have tiny brains and they hardly know anything

M: (looking at Rylan) Really?? Is that true??

R: yeeaah (word slightly elongated - said with complete confidence)

Z: well....I know.....it's just weird....but because I can see like air all the time........

(eye brows then raised like, 'what is he talking about'.......then we all crack up laughing....)

Now i realise that story "re-tells" never really do justice to the expression and animation of a child (or situation) but this one had Rylan and I laughing for ages.....we love zahns 'crazy' comments that often don't make any sense at all.....but said in such a way that he 'sounds like' he knows exactly what he's talking about.......so so funny!!! and just for the record i'm not sure about the 'turtle brain' thing.....i'll get back to you on that one!!!

the case of the 'serial' super hero.....

For as long as I can remember, Zahn has absolutely LOVED dressing up. Even as a little toddler he would dress up in chads ties and shoes etc, put on a bag and say, "I'm daddy and i'm going to work". So the love of make believe and dress ups started very young for zahn!!

As a now 4 year old instead of dressing up in daddys clothes and wearing funny hats and sunglasses, he has become, "Zahn-the Spiderman, bat, heat blasting, teenage mutant, star wars - skeleton, ninja turtle" which in other words means, he is generally wearing (or trying to wear) one of these outfits EVERYDAY (ok not everyday but OFTEN).  The sad truth is, sometimes I throw them all in the washing basket and say he can't wear them because they're "in the washing basket".....just to give the boy a break (but really it's because they are all about 1000 degrees and zahn does have a tendancy to overheat as he's burning around being a superhero) so don't get me wrong.....I absolutely love seeing him wear 'his costumes' and love seeing him have fun in them and I encourage him as much as the weather permits (the overheating thing) but sometimes when he puts on those ninja turtle pjs or that batman cape, along with that, he also whips out what he likes to call, the "turtle power" or 'bat attack' moves. So I do try and give him a balance so he's not 'using his super powers' all day long (in other words - so he's not kicking and punching his brother all day)

So here for you are some pics of Zahn, our 'serial' super hero........

can't get enough.....

Seriously how can we resist this little face.......

I just can't get enough of it.......

oooohhhhh i love this little girl!!!!!!

happiness is simple......

I love that something as simple as......

making the boys 'light sabers' out of junk mail and duct tape......

or taking them to the skateboard park......

and letting them wear 'superhero' capes to the skateboard park......

makes the day, 'quote', "the best day ever in the whole world".......

oompa loompa?????

How funny is this picture......

I realise that most of my pictures of Jasmin are upper body/head shots (OK they're usually extreme close ups of her little chubby face) So for the record.....just incase you were wondering......Jasmin is NOT an" oompa loompa" despite the fact that she looks like one in these pictures.....

I could hardly take the photo I was laughing so much!!!!!!

CLASSIC!!!!

Mini Mozart

When Rylan was 3 he started playing soccer for our local team (the tigers)!!

I was SO excited to be a soccer mum. Every Wednesday night and early Saturday morning for the season we would be at his training and the game with 'baby Zahn' all bundle up for the cold weather. I was so happy to be "that" soccer mum and thought Rylan was going to love it as much as me......but....well....he didn't.

I diligently took him and encouraged him for 2 seasons but then realised that my dream of being a soccer mum, with Rylan, was over and at the age of 4 his 'childhood' soccer career came to a close.

During summer of these same years Rylan also did little athletics (which again I LOVED but him, not so much. But he did it for 2 years then decided it was time to move on from that too.

We've been trying to find something that can be 'his thing'. Something he enjoys and something HE WANTS to do. So about 3 months ago Rylan started taking piano lessons. He was really excited to start and unlike the other things he has undertaken he still LOVES it even after 3 months......(that seems serious for a 6 year old dosn't it???)

His teacher said she was 'AMAZED' after his first lesson at how well he had done (true story not just "parent blindness" :) and she continues to tell me that he is "a natural" and that he LOVES his lessons.

I'm so glad he LOVES it and he seems to have found something for him.

Maybe we'll have a little Mozart in the family after all...(after all meaning i didn't quite master that skill...... :)
