Day 8 - "The baker"

The official bread maker in the family.....

Or, 'the baker' as I like to call him (which of course only encourages him to make even more yummy loaves of bread ;)

He has officially now made more loaves of bread than I have (I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not :)

On Sunday he made a loaf for lunch and decided to experiment a little with custard powder instead of milk powder. It turned out to be a delicious sweet bread that we smothered in butter and jam and devoured between the six of us!!!

One of my favourites.......

Brown Rice Salad

1 cup currants
2 red capsicums, diced
1 spring onion, diced
1 bunch parsley, diced
3 tbsp sunflower seeds
250g cashew nuts
3 cups {cooked} brown rice

Mix all salad ingredients together except cashews and sunflower seeds.

Dressing:

3/4 cup olive oil
4 tbsp soya sauce
2 tbsp honey
5-6 cloves garlic

Mix together and add with cashews and sunflower seeds just prior to serving!!

Eat and enjoy! It is delish!

ps) In the picture above, I didn't have currants so I improvised with the sultanas in my cupboard......I don't recommend this ;) and with the dressing, I don't always use it all, so add it slowly!!!

Extremes

I vowed last time that 80 - 90% of banana crops were wiped out in cyclone affected areas, that if it was to happen again - I would be prepared.

I admit sometimes I am extreme :)

$37.54. Approximately 16kgs.

Food storage money well spent.

And for a little more of 'scaled' perspective.......

It was about 10 bags full and they took up half the trolly. (It was funny watching people 'observe' our stash, and even funnier when a small group of people gathered around asking questions, then quickly followed suit :)

We will at least have banana muffins and smoothies for a little while longer!!

ps) Incase you're thinking like the lady in ALDI that said, "they won't last you very long dear", they are peeled, cut up, sealed in air tight bags and frozen. Not left on the bench in the hope that they will 'last' :)

edibles

Our current favorite snack.

Spirilina and garlic multigrain crackers. topped with colby cheese. and some sweet fruit. oh delish!

(these crackers are SO good! if you haven't tried them. you should go right now and buy some! they are that good. and they're from aldi (of course)!

Besides the small portion of 150c in them they are surprisingly 'additive' free :)

ps) ADDITIVE ALERT is the BEST place to check out what all those nasty numbers mean if you haven't already visited their site or one like it!!!

pss) If I start talking about food too much and posting too many pictures of random edibles like what crackers I like best. feel free to let me know. What can I say. I am pregnant. AND delicious food does occupy a large portion of my thoughts at the moment. (sad i know but true :)

Cookies and Monsters.....

Thanks to my creative genius sister Fiona and the celebration of her sons first birthday, today we made these little babies. The kids absolutely LOVED them!!

Cookie Monster on the other hand was not impressed when he saw what we were eating........

10 minute dinners......

The only (if any) positive thing about Chad being away.......

I make my quick fix lazy meal pretty much every night. Continental {wholegrain} pasta with steamed vegies.

Besides the capsicum and zuccinni - the boys love it, and luckily for me, despite their dislike they still eat it. Even if Zahn was chanting almost the whole time, quote "noodles are the best, chuck out the capsicum" (sung to the tune of 'Astons are the best', a song carried on from chads childhood) It was very funny, especially when his words were changing everytime he re-sung it.

I think the last version went something like this, "noodles are the best, chuck out every capsicum in the whole wide world"! Aahhhh always good for a laugh that boy!!!!
