So we've been having some teeth brushing issues lately (serious business I know :)
Issues as in, 'your teeth can't really be clean after 5 seconds of brushing, so let me help you do it again". But the boys (particularly Rylan) decided they didn't need or want me micro-managing their teeth brushing habits and it was kind of becoming a bit of a battle to ensure those little pearly whites were in fact pearly, white and clean after brushing :)
Then I came across this quote from this book.......
“When they push, you pull. Move with them. Make it a dance, not a tug-a-war. A dance isn’t about power or control. A dance is about trust, connection, cooperation, flexibility, and fun.
Isn't that statement so true to mothering (and teeth brushing so it seems :)
So instead of the tug-a-war of 'let me help you clean your teeth' we decided to make it a 'dance'......
Thank you whoever invented tiny little electronic head toothbrushes with timers that are suitable for brushing kids teeth (and thanks to ebay for selling them for a third of the price :)
It has made our whole bedtime routine SO MUCH more of a dance than a tug-a-war!!

true true lis! Asher can't stand the taste of mint so teeth brushing has been a war for years and the dentist recomend I not use bubblegum Aldi superhero toothpaste!!!!!!! too bad. Unfortunately the result has been a five year old with three fillings, who still uses baby toothpaste!!!!!!!!
So, I learned to dance with Kayd. He roars loudly like a dinosaur (and I mean loud) to let me brush his teeth, and then growls his meanest growl so I can get the front.
hahaha Abs, your comment made me laugh - we call Rylan our 'experimental' child (poor kid :) and all the things that didn't work when he was little we have change for the others :)
great idea. electric still didnt work for one of my kids. it was a war everynight of us holding her head open in a headlock. disaster every night. funny enough she has least holes and my daughter who would EAT toothpaste and LOVEs mint flavour has the MOST holes! SHe has lots.
I have never had a filling. It makes me so sad when my kids have LOTS its so embarrassing at the dentist! gah!
Hi Felicity!
So fun to stumble onto your blog :) I was just reading your 10 year anniversary post - it's crazy how time flies! I remember you and Chad from the 'just married' photo... 10 years has FLOWN by! It seems like only yesterday we were driving down to the Cannon Hills Shopping Centre to by food for our (awesome!) salad sandwhiches. lol!
So happy you're doing well - Such a beautiful family! I've added your page to my page, so hopefully I'll be able to follow you a little better now. Can't wait to hear more :)
